Murphy's law of photographing your kids

Inevitably, the only picture where all children are looking both pleasant AND at the camera will be the only picture that is also out of focus.

Okay, so maybe Murphy didn't say it, but he should have.

You may remember my Easter photo fiasco. I haven't tried to do any pictures of all three of them together since then. Until yesterday.

And the same thing happened:

This is the second best. We changed the position of the chair, so I'm not in love with the lighting, but everyone is looking at the camera and in focus, just not necessarily pleasant:
There are a couple I decided I really like though:

I love them to death and they're cute as heck.

But they're still uncooperative little stinkers.

  1. They are so adorable! I understand how you are feeling though. I always stress out around October when we take our yearly family picture. It never goes well, but we do it every year anyway. Shoot....(hhhmmmm pun intended?)I guess it is coming up again soon!

  8. They are beautiful pictures. I think I may have ONE picture of my girls all looking at the camera and it was in focus...but I'm thinking that was just a fluke because I have not been able to get one since. :P

These pictures remind me of my mom who also has a couple of pictures with me and my 2 sisters that was similar to these. She had me stand behind the chair because I was the oldest (and the only one tall enough) and then my sister Chat sitting in the chair and then my youngest sister, Mel, sitting on the floor. When she went to take a picture with her Polaroid it came out with my sister Chat's toe up Mel's nose. So she tried switching my two sisters and when she went to take the picture again Mel was pulling Chat's hair. I of course was looking down and watching the whole thing. :P I think she gave up after that because those are the only two pictures she has of us with that chair. LOL

  12. I love the sunflowers in the background, what a great touch. I also love the way you are signing your name to them. Very cute and trendy. AND I loved the quote you sent me. I DO need that sign at my house!

  14. Love these pictures! You are so good! And it's a given that when you want the perfect picture your kids won't give it to you..OR in our case Elodie usually ends up with a huge scratch or bruise on her cheek! I'm expecting that anyday now as we are getting ready for 3 year old pictures!

  16. Murphy's Law also states (in fine print) that on "picture day", the subjects must spill something on their finely pressed shirt/dress, get a grass stain, wake up with pink eye, skin their knee & someone must always start crying before and during the session.
