The art of procrastination

So like a year and a half ago, maybe two years ago, I bought some canvases to paint for the girls' rooms. At the time, we had just gotten them new bedspreads that were adorable, and I wanted to paint the canvases to match.

I started the project, because I am very good at that. It's the finishing part I usually don't get around to doing. Anyway, I gave both canvases a base coat (Bria's was blue, and Chloe's pink) and started working on Bria's. I even got around to painting stripes and flowers on hers.

And then, the project got put away. Shoved underneath my craft desk for days that turned into weeks and months and finally, years. And then they got new bedspreads again.

And then I was cleaning out my craft crap and I found them. I decided that I would just be a fun mom and let the girls paint the things themselves.

They loved it!

Here are some pictures of them working on their art.

Don't you just love Chloe's little tongue sticking out in concentration? Also, she made a lovely work of art and then decided she didn't want the background to be pink, so she painted over the whole thing (with the exception of a small area she liked) in purple.
Bria was feeling like she hated the flower she made. She is a perfectionist through and through, but she isn't into painting over things she doesn't like. I finally helped her make it more like she envisioned and she was happier. For what it's worth, I thought her flower was lovely to begin with.
The canvases are now proudly displayed above their beds.

No pictures, sorry. I'm a lazy mom.

But I am a fun, creative and artistic mom. So there.

  1. What a great idea! I love that!

  2. you are a great mom, of a very artistic bunch of girls!

  3. That is awesome!!! Our boys love painting. Great idea, and you are a great artistic mom.

  4. I think her flowers look great! What a cute idea.

I loved the interview with the two girls. They must know you pretty well because they had a lot of the same answers!

  5. That is a great idea. I think I'm going to have my kids do that. FUN!!! O and you are far from lazy.

  6. I finally finished a project that's been in a bag for over two years the other night. It feels good, doesn't it (even if it got finished in a different way than you envisioned).

  7. I've been doing some Van Gogh and Monet crayola crayon pieces with my kids. It's been so fun! Way to go! check out for more cool ideas.

  8. Well, Lara, if it makes you feel any better, my mom bought material to make a dress for me when I was 2, and needless to say, it's still not done! It happens to the best of us, and now your daughters got to contribute too!

  9. SO CUTE! We actually bought one for Ellie, but she hasn't earned it yet Mainly because we forgot about it until I read your post. HA HA!
