On the fourth day of Christmas, tradition gave to me:
Four Nativity scenes

I adore Nativity scenes. I want to someday have a room in my house that is just filled with them at Christmas time.

So far, I have four that I really love. I did have a few other cheap ones, but I finally just got rid of them. Anyway, here are the Mary/Joseph/Baby Jesus trios from each of my sets.

This is my Precious Moments Nativity. It isn't complete, and I haven't added to it for several years, but I hope to finish it one day. I love it. Joel bought me the Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus for our second Christmas together, and then he and my mom both added to it for several years after.

This is my Willow Tree Nativity. It also isn't complete, but someday it will be! My mom gave it to me for Christmas the year I was pregnant with Sophia. I love the Willow Tree figurines, even though they don't have faces and sometimes my kids take a marker to help them out. Luckily the Nativity set has escaped all face drawing thus far.
This is just a cute little one. I like it a lot. This year it is up on the shelf above the fireplace where the stockings are hanging.

This one is special to me because it belonged to my Grandma. I think it's beautiful, and most importantly, it reminds me of her.

We have a Creche festival here in town, that I sometimes remember to attend. I love seeing all the beautiful Nativities from all around the world. Totally inspiring, and a perfect reminder of why we celebrate this holiday in the first place.

P.S. My first day of Christmas post is being featured today in Emily Jensen's column at Deseret News/Mormon Times! Click here, I am the first link under the Photos header. What a nice Christmas surprise!

  6. I love Nativity sets and have started collecting some myself. Though they aren't as pretty as yours. My MIL has a gorgeous set she bought from Sams Club--who knew Sams Club would carry such a beautiful set.

  8. Wow, how cool is that? I am referring to having your blog featured AND to having so many lovely nativities AND to the fact that your kids help out the poor little faceless bible people. The world needs more people like that.

  12. Every Christmas (at least since we've lived here), a nearby town hosts what we call Colony Christmas. One of the events includes hundreds and hundreds of nativity scenes being set up in the church. You just wander through the building and see all the beautiful nativities. There's no better way to get into the Christmas spirit that I know of!

  13. I do have a small Nativity collection. I love them as well. They are the reason we do all of this, and it is a nice reminder. All of ours are packed away with the rest of our Christmas stuff, not to be seen until we are in the new house. So I splurged in September and bought the willow tree set. I just have the starter set and some metal stars, but I do love it. it will be nice to add to.

    You have such beautiful photography!

  18. I love my Willow tree Nativity. I actually thought they were made of wood, unitl my husband bumped in to a table sending two figurines to the ground and they shattered. My favorite Nativity was one my friend brought back from Istanbul. It was carved, painted and expensive. 'Sigh' it will NEVER be mine. I will just admire it from afar.

  23. I have the Precious Moments one, and Chris and I were too lazy to add to it. We're planning on doing so, since we both came to the conclusion that it needs some animals or the wisemen. I am holding my breath and Chris gets me the Jim Shore Nativity for Christmas. If he doesn't, I told him it's okay to get it for me for my birthday too - it doesn't have to be for Christmas! (especially since my bday is in April, and Christ was born in April, seems like it would also be okay to get it for me then! lol) And if he doesn't do it then, Mothers Day is 2 weeks after that.... lol

  24. I love my nativity scenes, although currently most of ours are VERY child friendly (we have a veggie tales one and a little people one)... I think it's a fun thing for the kids to play with... and thankfully we haven't lost any of the pieces as of yet.
