Sick Day
Plus: How I lost the weight

I've been fighting some crappy virus or something for the past several weeks, and it only seems to be getting worse in the last few days. And now everyone in the household has it.

So, yesterday I kept the girls home from school, hoping they can nip it in the bud more quickly than I have been able to.

They watched movies, ate chicken noodle soup and mostly stayed still.

Hopefully they're going to school today, though.

*************************************

About my weight loss. I did it using the hCG protocol, under the supervision of a doctor and a nutritionist. Here is the website for the place I went (Dry Creek located in Lehi, Utah), but they have sold the diet to several other places around the country. If you are interested, you can contact them and find out if there is anywhere near your area.

Both my mom and I went on the diet and have been very successful. Even though it involves pregnancy hormone, men can do it, too. In fact, that is how we found out about it in the first place: A male family friend who had lost 60 pounds or so on it.

With my PCOS and thyroid issues combined, it is almost impossible to lose weight. I have spent a lot of money on programs like Weight Watchers and LA Weightloss with very little success. And then I just gain the few pounds I do lose back when I get discouraged with the diet that isn't working anyway. This diet has been amazingly different. I have lost weight quickly and steadily, the keeping it off is also supposed to be easier, but I'm not to that stage yet.

That said, this diet is not cheap. It's pretty expensive, but they do offer incentives, like if you get friends to go on it, you get $50.00 credit for each one that does it. So, if you do decide this is for you and you can afford it (I felt like with my health issues I really couldn't afford not to do it), make sure to use my name as a referral so I can get some credit! :) If you have other questions, email me.

One more thing: My friend and neighbor, Kristy, is having a Mary Kay giveaway on her blog. Go here to enter it. Looks like some good stuff, you'll be missing out if you don't hop over there!

  1. I sure hope you all get feeling better soon. That sounds awful. If you need anything at the store or anything else let me know.

  2. Oh wow, you and Tina Stone have that nasty bug that just wants to hang around. I hope you all feel better soon...

I wish I can say I'll get on the diet referring thing, but you're the one who gets all the comments, so hopefully, some will do give you credit! Now, have some chicken soup yourself and get under some blankets (like I am right now, lol!)

  4. I'm thrilled for you. (Although I'm feeling dumb I didn't know about the PCOS--NOT fun.)

  6. My twin sister and I had long brown hair and glasses and we had a little sister--the three of us often looked just like that. Love the pic!

  7. I'm glad you found a prorgram that worked for you. I'm also sorry you tried LA Weight Loss and it really didn't work. Everyone has their different metabolism and hormones. It melted off with me, but like I said, we're all different. I'm struggling now, however. I maintained the weight loss for a year, but Christmases of 07 and 08 have screwed me over. I'm trying to be good on my own. There is something locally here I want to do when school lets out in May. Hopefully by then I won't have much to lose and I can start the 09-10 school year not looking like beach ball face again. I wanted to get knocked up in March (so I could be a deadbeat for the end of the year and *hopefully* be over most of it by the end of July), but that isn't going to happen now.

  8. Again, congrats on the weight loss. I seem to have the same trouble losing weight as you have had in the past. I'm gonna have to research this out. I have a question for you though. I know you get even sicker than I do when you are pregnant. Does the pregnancy hormone on the diet not affect you?

Good for you though for sticking to something that has really worked for you!

  10. Hope all of you feel better soon...there is something ucky still going around here too !

Good going on the weight loss...I don't know why most WOMEN think they are "GOOD" if they are losing and maintaining and "BAD" if they have a few pounds to lose or are overweight !

I can't remember the last time I heard a MAN say that, if ever...We are so darn hard on ourselves LOL !

  11. Is it wrong to wish for stomach flu just for the crash diet effect?

  12. You are too skinny, I don't know if we can be friends anymore.
    I am just getting fatter by the day. {sigh}

  13. Can I just say, "way to go!" again? I'm so proud of you for losing the weight! I'm actually starting the same protocol on Saturday. I used your mom as the referrer, though, since she had already written about it on her blog, and that's where I heard about it first. Sorry! How many rounds have you done? Oh, and what lotions, shampoo, soap, etc. did you use, if any? I'm wondering if I can make it 3 weeks without lotion.

    Hope you feel better, too!

  14. I kind of like sick days. For some reason I drag in the morning so getting to lounge around until 9 is like a gift.

  15. I am so jealous of your weight loss!! It sounds like you worked hard! I'm proud of you for sticking to your guns and loosing all that weight in spite of the holidays!

And I awarded you a fabulous blog award! Check out my latest post to get the details!

  16. Hope you can nip this nasty little virus in the bud soon!

I had never heard of that weight loss method. Interesting!

  17. I hope the girls went to school today. I hate it when everyone comes down with stuff at once. But in a way its good because then it doesn't get dragged out over weeks and months.

Interesting diet. I hope it continues working wonderfully for you.

  20. I lost 30 pounds on WW about 3 years ago. BUt over the past 2 years I've put about 20 back on. I'm trying to get my head where it needs to be to really lose the weight again, but I'm not having much luck.

I'm so happy it's going well for you. It's such a nice feeling to be happy about how you look and feel.

  21. I just rewrote a 5,000 word pamphlet on OC and PCOS. I knew almost nothing before, I know almost everything now! :) This is so wonderful that you found something that made it possible to lose weight. The cycle that was described in that pamphlet just sounded awful. Now I wish i could go back and add in your diet suggestion with your name so everyone can benefit from it. Especially you!!

  22. Congrats again on the weight loss! And that picture looks so cozy!!! ALMOST makes me wish I had kept my kids home on my sick day yesterday, but then I wouldn't have been able to rest my voice, which is mainly why I stayed home anyway.

  23. Thanks for the explanation--I've heard about this and it's rather fasc fascinating. I heard that some people lose up to a pound a day! Wow. Good luck with it as it continues, and way to go.
