Not so deep thoughts on the day after Groundhog Day

I don't know if Punxatawny Phil saw his shadow or not, but I definitely saw mine. And I wasn't even scared. Therefore, according to me, spring is on its way. And I am pretty sure I hold way more weight than old Phil.

I got my hair cut yesterday. It was much needed, but I really think I hate it. I asked her to just trim it and keep the exact cut I already had. I'm not a hairdresser, but I really didn't feel that was asking too much. Instead she did some weird layers and she thinned it out so much I question whether or not I have much hair left. And I had quite a lot to begin with. It's also very roundish. Can you tell on my shadow? I don't like my hair to look so round...I feel somewhat like a bubble head. Sigh. Why is it impossible to have a great haircut twice in a row?

After my haircut, I bought some awesome fabric (found an amazing little fabric shop in town with all the great fabric designers: Amy Butler, Michael Miller, Heather Bailey and more) and I'm going to make myself an adorable apron. Then I'm going to be addicted and make more.

I'm sure I'll look fabulous in my new apron when I finish, but I'm really not sure about this darn haircut.

I am sure that it's time to get Sophia a haircut of her own. I always kind of dread the first haircut, but it must be done. I'm wondering if I should have them do bangs for her.

Joel was home sick with the flu all day yesterday. It remains to be seen if he'll be well enough to go to work today. I felt sorry for the poor man, having to wake up before 6 am to call a substitute. I also felt sorry for the poor substitute, being rudely awakened at 5:45 am. But not as sorry as I felt for Joel.

I got a surprising amount done around the house yesterday, despite the hubby's being home. Most of it was due to slave driving my two older daughters as their punishment for fighting like cats and dogs for most of Sunday.

I still need to vacuum, however. Sometime today.

Just not now, because we're all heading over to Denny's right about now to get our free breakfasts. Did you know? Denny's is serving America free breakfast today from 6:00 am until 2:00 pm. So what are you waiting for? I'll see you there!

There may be no such thing as a free lunch, but nobody ever said anything about breakfast!

Happy Tuesday!

  2. I love the photo and I hope spring is coming. Just remember hair grows back, thank heavens. My kids are all planning on heading over to the Dennys thing so look for them. Hopefully it won't be too busy.

  3. Your header is super cute. I hope you enjoyed your breakfast. I wish I could go to a Denny's. Sorry you hate your haircut. There is nothing worse than hating the way your hairdresser cut your hair.

  4. Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me about the free Denny's breakfast! I love the pic you took....So creative, and as far as your hair goes, I'm sure it looks cute. We always are very critical of ourselves and our looks, I'm sure to everyone else it doesn't look bad at all.

  7. We've all been wearing "fringe" and "messy" for so long that round and smooth looks strange at first, but it really is the "new" look, rounded, finished, not so sloppy as we've been doing, I'm sure its adorable, if only you can get used to it.
My son has been begging to go to Denny's, he's never been to one, not sure why all of the sudden he just HAS to go.

  10. LOVE the pic!! And I am really sorry about the haircut!! I wish you lived closer to me so that I could introduce you to the amazing Sheena!! There is nothing worse than a bad haircut....and believe me--I have had MANY of them!! Free breakfast at Denny's--SWEET!!

  11. That photo is so cool! By the way, the lens you said you used most often - is that the one that came with your camera, or did you buy a nicer one? I know you're not using your 50 so much, but I love mine right now for indoor stuff.

I'm having a hard time, right now, with focusing on the right thing. I need to learn more! It seems there's always something new to learn with an slr!

By the way, my email is on my sidebar.

  13. Free breakfast - really? What's the occasion?

  14. I like haircuts...about a week after I get them. Even if it is just a trim it seems to take me that long to get used to my hair being different. I'm sorry your cut wasn't what you wanted.

    Have fun at Denny's!

  15. Lacey (and anyone else who wonders)

I took Bria and Chloe. Joel wasn't feeling well enough to go, and I decided to let Sophie sleep since she wouldn't know what she was missing.

We got there at 6:50 am and waited in the col until about 7:30 when we got to the front doors. We were seated at about 8:00 and served at 8:20. Got home just in time to get Bria to school. Worked out nicely. Lots of college kids there, which isn't surprising. :)

  16. Can't tell much on the hair from the shadow, but you're lookin' mighty thin! Woot!

  17. Lara, I see a lovely new header with picures of your darling girls, but no picture of the new haircut. Really? Your fans need to evaluate said haircut and give you the honest feedback that you deserve.

Plus, I am sure that it looks great!

  18. Haircuts--the bane of my existence! I stress about them for weeks before and weeks after. So sorry--hopefully when you do it yourself the result will be much better.

  20. And that is why I am on the substitute "call ahead only" list. I would not be a happy woman if the phone rang at 5:45! Hope all are well now.

  22. I think I'm the only one in America that didn't get to Denny's
today and I posted it yesterday on my couponing blog !

I need to do just about everything around the house and I can't get out of 1st gear...glad you got some things done !

  23. You look great in your shadow. Being skinny trumps bad hair cut!!! :O) We thought about doing breakfast until we saw the line, it was just too cold for that.

  24. Love that photo!

Anyway, no, but now that I've seen how great the movie was, I'm hitting bookstores to find them all and read at one sitting!

  26. I've been on the receiving end of bad haircuts before, but I know it's annoying to say, but it will grow out!

    Sorry, though.
    (and the shadow looks great!)

  27. No, there is no such thing as two good haircuts in a row because God does not want us to be vain. (This is the same reason that our jeans never stay the same size for more than 6 months.)

  28. What a beautiful blog and beautiful photo. Wow. Just wanted to stop by and say thanks for following me. Especially when I was so down in the dumps. That was really sweet. I'll make sure and reward you for that. Like today.

  30. This is what happened to me with a haircut recently. Seriously. I asked for her to "define it A LITTLE" and she hacked it off. It's so think and short, it really does look like a wig. Ugh...

Sorry about the flu. I hope it doesn't make it's rounds.

    FREE BREAKFAST???

  31. Man, I didn't know about the breakfast thing! Oh well.

I hear you on the haircut thing. Virtually impossible to get a good one twice. You'll have to post a picture...if you want to:)

  32. Happy Tuesday to you too! Great post! Sorry I haven't been over in a few! Work has been way crazy!
    ♥ Hugs :)

  33. I like your photo. Just remember it doesn't take long for a bad haircut to grow out. I usually have a kind of bob, but for fun I am growing mine out until my son gets home from his mission around Thanksgiving. I am not even getting a trim. I will just work with it. :)
