Tattletale

Having two older sisters, Sophia already has tattling down to an art at age 2 1/2. Luckily, she's young enough that it isn't annoying yet, and is in fact rather adorable.

It usually starts with a scream and a cry somewhere in the house. Then I hear the pitter-patter of little feet running to find me. Then I see a very indignant face. Then I hear her say, "Bia hit-a-ME!" or "Fwoe pinsch-a-ME!" or "Bia kick-a-ME!" or "Fwoe (makes mean sound accompanied by dirty look) ME!"

The "ME!" is always said as dramatically as possible and always makes me snicker to myself.

Sometimes she even tells on her daddy. Like the other day when I went to get her up from her nap and started to exchange her diaper for underwear, she said, "Daddy take-a mah pannies off-a ME!"

Apparently she wasn't so excited about having to wear a diaper for her nap, and Daddy was in big trouble for having the audacity to make her.

I never thought that she would tell on me, though. I'm the one she tattles to, after all. Boy, was I ever wrong.

The other day I was in my bedroom folding laundry and she had something she definitely shouldn't have. That something was my lipstick and of course is a totally forbidden item. Anyway, I took it from her and put it away. Of course she was mad at me and threw a little tantrum. And then she looked at me and said, "I teh you, Mommy!" and ran out of the room.

Right into the kitchen where she found Joel and indeed told on me.

"Mommy take-a mah litstit ME!"

And that was the moment that I decided her tattletaling wasn't quite so adorable anymore.

  1. That is SO cute. I almost feel like I just watched a video of it, you described it so well. What a cutie. You should have run after her and said to him, "No, Sophia take-a mah litstit ME!!"

I'm going to have to write about Aaron's little pitter-pattering lately, too. Don't you sometimes feel like you ALWAYS need a child of pitter-pattering age? And don't you sometimes feel like you never again want one that age? (usually the former, though, thankfully)

  2. You explain that so well. I guess it is so cute now but as she gets just a little older everyone won't appreciate it any more. She is definitely the cutest.

  3. I love the addition of a-ME at the end of the tattles! What a great snapshot of her personality as it is right now!

  4. Funny girl!

I remember laughing at each of mine's tattling stage. I was more laughing at the cute sounds like she did.

BTW, it looks like you're winning on the giveaway front from all the referrals, and I tell you I'm trying with SITS and MMB, so if you don't mind, do another plug and I'll give you 5 extra entries for being referred by ME!

Thanks for helping share my blog. I really appreciate it. :-D Hugs!

I promise, I won't tell Sophia! (locking lips- now!)

  7. It really is cute when they are that age. My almost 7 and 5 year old do it and it is not so cute. I'm sick of hearing it. What a cute story!

  8. Ainsley does the same thing, and right now it makes me laugh. Hers is always "Ike Ike did it me." What's not so funny is when Isaac tries to pull the same stunt and talk like a baby. Drives me insane!

  9. I think your Sophia and my Natalie would get along smashingly. As we speak, she is telling me: "Clark took my dora moobie way from me!"

  10. That's bits I hate it when that happens.

  11. I'm not kidding: My teenagers STILL tattle on their parents.

But the real kicker is the stuff they DON'T report about each other. I'm only now hearing stories of how my oldest (now 21) used to drive himself and his sister to the high school every morning. It certainly explains the crappy suspension on our poor little pickup...

  12. How funny, I remember the first time Rorie tattled on me, it was over making her TRY peas. She ran to Ryan and exclaimed "mom twy to feed ME pee!" Two is such a fun age!

  13. I think she will learn in time that tattling isn't funny. But for now, it definitely is!

  15. I'm impressed that SHE was the one that threw the tantrum. If it were me, I'd have had a little screaming fit and marched into the kitchen to tell on her :-)

  20. Naw. Still adorable. My 2 1/2 year old tattle tales too. Only, if he's mad at ME he just hits me in the head. I think I'd much rather he run and tell Ryan.

  21. Is it bad that I'm laughing my head off?

Or that my tattler remembers every single time I've lost my temper for the past year, and chooses to tell on me whenever we have company?

  22. What a fun post.

Jonas likes to accuse people (namely Zoie) of things. He'll pass gas and I'll ask who did it, and he'll reply (quickly) Doey!

  23. Our kids tried tattling on us as parents but found out quickly that usually it fell on deaf ears. I love the way she tattles though!

  25. You're right - it is so cute until it is directed at you! And that sure is an adorable picture of her.

  26. What a cutie! I love the -a- in the middle of her sentences. My little one does that too like Jack-a-rabbit and ice-a-cream.

  28. This is the kind of story that will be priceless some day. Love it.

  29. I love toddler indignance, and toddler intimidation tactics (pretending to be scary). Lots of little things have big imprtance to them!

  30. I love the baby talk. Sometimes my almost 4 year old still mispronounced stuff, and I just don't have the heart to correct her because it's so stinkin' cute.

  31. OOOO She's learning the game, huh? It's fun to see the kids start to get feisty. I actually enjoyed those years because their personalities really shined!

  32. So funny! And so true, ain't it? Love those blue blue eyes!
