Happy Birthday to my Blog!

Sometimes I can't even believe I've been blogging for four entire years, but here it is. Tomorrow we are celebrating four years of Overstuffed. At least I am.

When I began blogging, it was indeed a novelty. Back then, I was heavy into the scrapbooking world and blogs began popping up there in early 2005, so I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon. Never mind that most of my friends and family had no idea what blogging was, and therefore never read it. Back then, I posted an average of once a week and had three readers I could actually count on: My mom, Hilary, and my sister-in-law, Ashley. Back then, I only read other blogs when I felt like it, and really had no blogs that were must-reads, with the exception of Hilary's. Back then, I was thrilled if I got 9 hits in a day and more than one comment.

Funny how things change.

Now, blogging is not so novel anymore. It has taken over as my main hobby, instead of scrapbooking. It seems nearly everyone I know keeps a blog, whether or not they intend to be a part of the "blogging community." Now, I post almost daily, and kind of miss it on the days I decide not to post. Now, I have a lot of subscribers and followers, and am sometimes overwhelmed by that fact. Now, I have plenty of other blogs which I read religiously and am excited to see updated. Now, I would be utterly depressed if I got only nine hits a day and just one comment.

The best part is, I have made so many great friends through blogging. Some of them have immediately turned out to be kindred spirits, but all of them enrich my life. So thank you. Thank you for reading my ramblings about my overstuffed life. Thanks for commenting. Thanks for caring. And thanks for writing your own blogs. Makes me happy.

So, what's a birthday without a party?

And what's a party without presents?

I made an apron* as a gift to you. One of you will win it at the end of this week. All you have to do is comment, comment, comment.

Every day for the rest of the week, starting tomorrow, I will link a few of my favorite old posts. Posts I love, yet nobody ever really saw, aside from my three original readers. (Okay, so some of them aren't quite that old.) Every time you comment on an old post, your name will be entered into the drawing for the apron. And if you comment on this post, and you happened to have commented on one of the featured posts (Hilary) (Mom) when it was originally posted, you'll still be entered in. If you want to win, you'd better start commenting, because I'm pretty sure that Hilary has it in the bag otherwise. Which is a good thing for her, considering her baby is due this week, and she'll be too busy to comment on my blog anyway.

I'll announce the winner sometime on Saturday.

Happy Birthday, Overstuffed!

*So, the apron isn't quite finished yet. But it's adorable. It's the same pattern as this one, just with different (and cuter, I think) fabric. I was going to finish it last night, except I ended up spending 3 1/2 hours in the Emergency Room with Chloe, who I strongly suspected had pneumonia. The doctor and a couple of X-rays confirmed my suspicions around midnight, and so my plans for the next few days are unfortunately going to be a bit altered. Again with the priorities, and the sick child will obviously come first, but I'm sure I'll find time to finish the apron. I'll post a picture the second it's done, just so you can be sure you really want to win it. But believe me, you do. Because I'm having second thoughts about giving it up...

  1. Oh, I'm so sorry whenever anyone has to spend time in an emergency room! We have done far too much of that around our home in the last few weeks. I hope your sweet little one is on the mend quickly.

I enjoyed our lunch Saturday so much, and appreciate you taking time out of your life to participate. I will blog about it soon, when laundry and life gets caught up. You were a total delight to hang out with!

    Cute, cute, cute apron!!!

  11. Happy birthday, blog!

We had an explosion of blogs in my ward (within the past year or so), but nobody posts very often. About half the ward is on Facebook, too. We're very wired in. Ha.

  15. Happy Birthday, Overstuffed! I'm glad I found you, Lara.

And the coincidences keep piling up: My sister's BFF is Melanie Harris, who I believe is in your ward. And my BIL plays basketball with Joel and Mel's husband.

Big world, small church, I guess!

  21. Happy Birthday to your Blog! When I started a little over two years ago there were still not a huge amount of blogs. I had a few on my friends list. It seems about a year ago it exploded and know everyone I know has a blog. I have not even updated my friends list because I know it will take a while. It is amazing how huge blogging has become!

  25. My daughter was looking over my shoulder and asked 'why did you put a smilie face after what you just said? That makes no sense". I told her that I always sign my comments that way - so you'd know it's me (Loralee) and not one of my 'gang'...going to have to blog about it. Either that or alter my 'sig' based on my comment. Hhmmmmm
    ( :~D )

  26. Right now we have our kids slathered in Mentholatum and lying down under blankets all day in an attempt to get rid of their coughs before they can turn into pneumonia (my boy is a lot worse than my girl) because we can't afford an emergency room visit even if I am starting a part time job soon. Hopefully it all works and he starts getting better soon.

I hope Chloe starts feeling better soon too. On a cute note, after church yesterday I saw your girls outside the RS room. I said hi to Sophia and asked her how she was and she said "I'm Sophia" it was really cute.

  27. Happy Blog-day! The apron is adorable. I love aprons. Maybe I should do something like this for mother's day for my 3 moms.

I am so sorry about the pneumonia. We deal with that way too often. It's no fun. I hope Chloe recovers quickly!

  28. Good luck to everyone else.
I did just buy myself a pretty cute apron to match the boy's... I will not die if I do not win.
I may be devastated though, it doesn't take much anymore. :) Just ask Drew.

  31. Happy Blog Birthday to you! I would have commented anyway, but now that I know I could actually win something. Well, let's just say I'm all over it like white on rice. :) PLUS, I just noticed that I made your list of top 10 commentors. I am stoked. I have been trying to nail that feat for weeks. For no other reason than I am a competitive person by nature. Anyway, I love your blog, I love you, and I am so sorry that Chloe is sick! I was worried that she might be when she was so cold yesterday. Please let me know if there is anything I can do.

Happy Blog B-day too. I remember back in the Gateway Ward, you telling me about how you were a blogger. I really didn't get it, even though it sounded really cool. Now look what a crazy phenomenon it is!

  39. Hi, Lara, I haven't posted much since Sophia entered the world 3 months ago but I still read faithfully and think of you often. Your blog is the one that inspired me to start my own, which is sadly neglected at the moment. Maybe your blog birthday will inspire me to fix that. :)

Hugs to Chloe and prayers for your family!

  40. Happy Happy Birthday! I remember when I first found your blog when you linked it with an email to the RS! LOL!

  41. Happy Blogging Birthday!

Four years ago I was one of the many blogging oblivious... had no idea there even was such a thing! I still only post 3-4 times a week, but without my blog none of my four girls would have a baby book record to speak of.

    Hope Chloe is well soon!

  42. Happy Birthday, Overstuffed!!! Lara - it truly is one of my favorites, and I love reading your thoughts/musings/ideas.

Hope that Chloe gets better very quickly.

Oh, and are you coming for Women's Conference? I am - I'm so excited - I got a plane ticket to Utah for my birthday last week!

  43. Poor Chloe...Tyler had Pnuemonia when he was 1. The worst part for him was the XRay!

It's funny how something like "blogging" that I had never even heard of 2 or 3 years ago is now like my main connection to many of my friends (many long lost, some new) and a way I love to document my life. Happy Birthday!

  44. Happy Bloggiversary! Four years-Wow. I wonder if I'll keep it up for 4 years...probably since it's the only form of "scrapbooking" i do these days.

Poor Chloe! I just talked to Matt the other day after his instacare visit...Sending hugs & prayers for my sweet niece.
