Accident Prone

On Tuesday and Thursday mornings I teach at the University while Sophia is in preschool.  Joel does work at home or attends staff meetings, picks up Sophia from preschool and then they come to get me at the University.

Yesterday, when I walked out to the car, Joel was making weird sign language hand signals to me. I was very confused, but I understood that I should talk to him before I opened the door to see Sophia.  He wanted to warn me that she had had a pretty bad injury at preschool--not bad enough to warrant a hospital visit or anything--but she didn't look so hot.

Scraped

Apparently she had fallen out of the swing and landed right on her face.  She is scraped up pretty badly, and yesterday she had a swollen lip, but she's mostly fine.  She was pretty pathetic for most of the day yesterday, and when the older girls came home from school they doted all over her.  Too bad that it takes a disfigurement to encourage good sisterly relations, I say!

Today it all looks much better and she isn't bothered by it much.  But there goes the Easter dress photoshoot I had planned for this Saturday.  I'm not really feeling like photoshopping all the scrapes away, so we'll just have to wait.

Better luck next time.

  2. Poor girl!

My oldest daughter fell on the playground the day before my son was born, and feel straight on her forehead. They called me down to the school to look at it and decide if it needed stitches or not, and to pick the rocks out of it. My son was born at home, so in all the pictures we took of her holding him, and of us together as a family, she has a huge scrape on her forehead!

  3. Owie! Poor thing! They always seem to do stuff like that right before you want to take pictures!

  4. Looks just like some scrapes I had about that age. Sadly, I had no older sisters to dote. Just older brothers to mock.

  5. Yikes. Good thing you got a warning :)

That lip doesn't look easy to photoshop. Good news is she will NEVER know that you did easter pictures after easter!!

  8. She still is very beautiful inspite of her injuries! I am so sorry, it could have been much worse, so lots of kisses and hugs to my baby girl!

  11. Ouch! Poor girl. Jonas seems to fall often, and keeps hitting his head in the same spot. You'd think he'd learn to put his hands out to catch himself. :)

  12. My daughter Corinne was THIS kid! Always with a scrape or a bruise. I'm amazed that she has the beautiful, flawless complexion she does, because I'm not kidding; she went, like, 10 years with some sort of scrape or bump or swolen fillintheblank!

  14. Cute that she is still smiling. And I must say that the pearls really make the shot even more paradoxical:)

  16. Poor little Sophia! I was just like her when I was little, I think. My nickname was "Bull in a China Shop" so you decide...

  17. Ouch! I'm so sorry for that. My son had a nasty fall at a local park last December and people would just stop and look at his little face some times. Poor kids. Good thing they're made of rubber. Well, mostly, right?

  18. That was me when I was a kid. I always had a scratch or bruise or bump or something... in every photo... I was injured somehow.

  19. I like her sweet smile, in spite of the scrapes. What a cutie.

  20. OH she is SO beautiful no matter what! I say.....go for it. What a wonderful memory! Take those pics. If you don't, and you wait until the scrapes and bruises go away you will say, "Oh I remember, you fell and scrapped up you pretty little face so I had to postpone the photo shoot". AHHHHH no way, this is priceless....savory the moment and take those pics! then take some later too!

  21. Poor Kid! I did something similar when I was around 6 and it took forever to heal. I felt like I had a scab on my face for months. And then my parents got mad at me when I drew my face like that on a school project.

Hey, I was just trying to be accurate!
