Sunrise Over the Frozen Lake

Sunrise over the frozen lake

Being a night owl, I'm not usually up early enough to see the sun rise. And if I am, I'm usually too grumpy to care.

We drove out of town before the sun rose to catch our flight to Utah, and it was stunning! Plus, it made me realize I had forgotten my camera, so we turned back for it just in the nick of time. So the picture is 10 minutes after the initial peek over the lake, and I am kicking myself for not having my camera then.

Maybe I'll become a morning person, just to see more of this kind of beauty.

  1. *sigh* the title had me all twitchy exited - expecting a lake superior sunrise. I'll let it go this time because the photo is so stunning.......

  2. That is gorgeous. There really is nothing like seeing a sunrise. Except maybe seeing a sunset. :)

  3. Stunning.
The only time I see the sunrise is early flights or nursing a new baby.

  5. This would be a great overblown photo for the wall. I am into large graphic prints.

  8. LOL oh dear, I do see what you mean! I too am such a night owl. I could go to bed at 1 or 2 sometimes later and get then get up and have to go to work at 7! The night is just always been such a quiet time for me even when the children were little and we didn't have computers then! or cell phones! I must have read a lot....or talked on the phone a lot with other mothers...BTW gorgeous sunrise pic!

  9. That is a beautiful picture. Have you ever been to Maui? The sunrise on the Haleakala Crater is absolutely breathtaking. Well worth waking up at 3:00 AM to make it there in time!

  11. Sunrise is my most favorite time. IT's like fire in the sky! I love it. Your picture is beautiful. I'm glad you got to capture it before it got to high in the sky. I have posted some pictures on my photography blog of a recent sunrise. The colors are truly amazing and like I said... Fire in the Sky. Go check them it out if you haven't already.

  14. I'm not a morning person. But this is gorgeous and worth waking up for. And then maybe just going back to bed until 10am. :)
