It Is a Truth Universally Acknowledged

That a married woman in possession of a little extra weight, must be in want of a good pair of jeans.

And that nothing will convince her to go on (yet another) diet better than going to the department store to try a few (hundred) pair on.  Especially when said department store has decidedly unflattering mirrors.

  2. You know which mirror I love? The one at the Mesa Temple -- do you know the one I'm talking about? It makes you so long and skinny.

  3. Oh, I hear you! Good blue jeans are a rare find. I've finally found my favorites though. For once, there are jeans in my closet that I actually get excited about putting on. The bad news? I had to really pay for them. I'm of the opinion now that some things you just have to spend money on, without compromising. Like running shoes. And blue jeans.

I wish you luck on your quest... have you ever been to the Buckle? The employees there are fit experts and are really good at helping you find a good fit.

  4. You don't just have to be married to be searching for good jeans:)

  5. I might be weird, well I am, but I really like to buy my jeans at the thrift store (the DI for those of us in Utah). I love the worn in feeling. I always find a pair I really like there. :) Good Luck

  6. I love the title and opening line so much . . . I've got to use it for my Facebook status. I promise I'll include a link back. "Every woman" needs this chuckle. Thank you!

  7. Trying on clothes can be so defeating to one's ego. But once you find those jeans, you will live in them, and love them, and it will all be worth it.

I'm pregnant right now, so trying on clothes is not only frustrating, it's exhausting. Good luck in your search. (In the past, I've had the most luck at Old Navy and Gap.)

  8. Like others, that is a great first line.

  9. Can I get an amen? AMEN!

Oh. Just realized you've already had one. Well, I second it.

My problem is that I find a pair I'm happy *enough* with, then get them home and find nothing looks good with them. I'm returning a pair to Kohl's today for that exact reason.

  11. Let me add my AMEN!

I desperately need another pair of jeans (one is just not enough) and the thought of a dressing room trying them on is causing me severe panic

  12. LOL!! I understand and COMPLETELY empathize.

  13. Does your town have a Macy's? Because I have never seen a store that had a better selection of jeans for every possible bum/hip/leg/life experience configuration. I love Macy's. With all my heart and points south.

  14. I am SO frustrated right now. I am down to my pre-pregnancy weight, but my hips are still so wide that none of my jeans fit. NONE of them! I only have one pair of capris that I keep wearing (and washing) constantly. I hope my body goes back before it gets cold. Because otherwise, I'm going to have to go jean shopping!

  15. Oh, how I share this frustration! I have to prepare myself mentally/emotionally for jean-shopping, literally giving myself a pep talk before I go and willing myself not to cry in those hot, stuffy, flourescent-lit mirrors-all-around dressing rooms!!

  16. Oh Amen, Lara! Trying on jeans can sometimes begin the vicious cycle of chocolate consumption, which leads to more sad jeans.

  17. You'll get another Amen! from me!

  18. I have dropped 17 and must admit for the first time in 8 or 9 years that I like trying clothes on again. Sorry:( Just bought my first pair of jeans in years recently.

But, it was not in the distant past that I would struggle to find jeans that fit. Dressing rooms can be terrible, terrible places.

  19. Any Pride & Prejudice reference is a-okay with me...especially when it softens the blow of said truth, universally acknowledged. Ugh.

  20. Exactly! I am trying to ignore the snug fit of my jeans for that very reason!

  21. Ha! You make me laugh! Such a truth and couldn't be put better.
