Yes, I am Completely Insane

Black Friday today.

Of course I went out, though ever since I moved away from my mother I haven't been able to convince ANY of my friends to go out with me.  They must be smarter than I am.  Although, I'm a sucker for a good deal, and am probably a little too motivated by saving tons of money.  Also, I am a total insomniac anyway, why not go shopping?

It's 5:50 and I just got home from this year's adventure.  Which included WalMart only having 10 Leapsters in stock and the lady in front of me grabbing six of them and leaving none for little old me, who was planning to buy 2.  I hate how Wal-Mart does Black Friday, by the way.

Anyway, that was a little after midnight, so I came home (in the steadily accumulating snow) and worked some magic online with the Leapsters and managed to get them for just the same amount I would have paid at WalMart.  I am awesome.

And then I slept for a couple hours.

When I woke up at 3:30, I was greeted by a good 3 inches of new snow, with more still falling.  I was still undeterred.  I headed over to JCPenney's and managed to get some amazing deals for Joel and my little clothes-horse, Bria.  Who wants nothing but clothes for Christmas and she is only ten.  Sigh.

Then ShopKo.  Nothing great there, but I thought I'd check it out anyway.  I ended up with one gift for Sophia, some tape to wrap all these things with and a pair of fabulous shoes for myself.  Oops.

When I came out to my car there was another 6 inches of snow fallen.  My street hadn't been plowed yet this early (the snowplow only just came by as I was typing this) and so I was very grateful for my snow tires as my car trudged through the snow.

There was only a little snow last year.  This year, I am experiencing real Yooper snowfall I think.

I'm headed to bed for a few hours, and then we are decorating the house for Christmas.  This is my favorite day of the entire year, besides Christmas itself.  It truly makes my spirit bright.

I hope your spirits are made bright today, too!

  1. I would go shopping with you. I almost always have to go by myself. Too bad we have never lived in the same city... or even valley!

I am currently shopping... standing in line at Kohl's and ready to move on!

  4. I've never done the Black Friday shopping thing. I would probably go if I had a group of friends who were willing to go with me.

  5. I don't understand black friday rationale. There is nothing on earth that would make me get out of bed (or not go to bed) and go outside in the cold, the very very cold, fight crowds (and some people get so mean) just to save a little bit of money. Nothing so important as that. I say good for you for getting those deals, though. That is awesome. Especially the shoes for you! Good job. And I am jealous of your snow. The weatherman promised me an awesome blizzard and all I got out if it were a couple inches of snow. So not fair!

  8. I don't go shopping on black friday. I have found that I spend more money buying things I don't need just because they are a good deal. So, I shop early when it is on sale and I shop online. Good for you being able to go and not letting the crowd get to you. I can't handle the meanspiritedness in some people, so I don't go, but I always admire those who can manage it. Hope you had a great time, and I hope you love your shoes! (you can always wrap them up as a present from your kids to you!)

  9. I would totally go with you. Except now I think it's almost mandatory that I go to Green Bay every Thanksgiving from now on, forever. Shame on the Leapster lady!!! Glad you could get some online, though. We'll have to check for some good deals after Christmas!! Though we'll have to prolly shovel our driveway out before we can get into our garage!!!!

  10. You are so brave! I don't do the Black Friday shopping either... I don't think there's anything I would miss sleep for on purpose... but that's just me. It sounds like you had fun anyway, despite the lack of Leapsters! ha ha

We also decorated our house for Christmas today... I LOVE IT! It's one of my favorite traditions...

    Yay for new shoes! :)

  11. You are a braver soul than I—I could handle the snow, but not the 3:30 and the grabbing ladies. But then going back to bed, waking up later and trimming the tree? Fabulous—maybe the early shopping makes it all the sweeter.

    Enjoy your holidaying!

  12. Well done on the Black Friday shopping! - especially the on-line deal!
The older I get, the less enthused I am about shopping

  15. Don't even get me started about Walmart! I had a great time black friday shopping and I didn't even go out until 11:00 a.m. I got everything I wanted and then some and I didn't battle any crowds. It was a great day. I also did some onling shopping and found some fabulous deals that were better in some of the stores with free shipping. It was fun! Glad you had fun too! We are getting a lot of snow too!

  16. I find that shoppign online you can almost always get it for just about that cheap, and without having to have the christmas cheer sucked right out of you!

  17. I find your day very interesting. I can't believe you have a 10 year-old who only wants clothing for Christmas. That's a little scary. Fun, but expensive!

I was totally NOT in the mood to decorate our house for Christmas. I think I have issues with our Christmas decor. The last few years I've wanted something ... different than what we have. Oh well. It looks nice once it is up and is so festive. I love that aspect of it!

I've never done Black Friday. I guess I just don't care to save money. Not that I want to get ripped off, but I know that Walmart and some other places only have a few items of their good deals. :( I think it would probably be much better for clothing shopping. Maybe one of these years I'll set aside a budget for some winter clothing shopping because I think there are some good deals for that on Black Friday. I think it could be fun.
