Brain Dump

I gained a lot of weight over the holiday.  Too much.  So, it's back on the wagon I go.  So far, I've been very good, but it's only day 3.  HOWEVER, I'm sick of this up and down crap and I have nobody to blame but myself.  This year I'm going to lighten up the booty once and for all!

************

Except, apparently I am now going through some sort of detox because I've had a migraine for the past 3 days.  Today has been a bit better, but it came back with a vengeance after lunch.

************

Then I went to the dentist, worried what that would do for the headache, and had the world's fastest cleaning.  Seriously you guys, I think my dentist broke some sort of record.  My appointment was at 2:00.  I got there right on time, walked right in, sat in the chair, the dentist himself took the x-rays and did the cleanings, checked for cavities (none!) and I was on my merry way and in my front door by 2:17.  And the migraine was not exacerbated.

************

Bria is getting braces put on tomorrow. Poor thing is nervous as can be, and, quite frankly, so am I.  I never needed braces, and while Joel should have had them, he didn't.  We have no personal experience or sage advice to offer her.   Please tell me it will be okay.

************

Chloe will also begin her own orthodontia journey tomorrow, but she's starting with some retainers.  We are a little less nervous about this.  Sophia saw the dentist yesterday, and most certainly has orthodontist visits in her future as well.  How did none of my girls inherit my straight teeth and huge mouth?

************

Yes, we have been seeing the dentist a lot lately.  Thanks for noticing!

************

While I did get some projects done over Christmas break (like paint the playroom closet blue), I'm afraid that I mostly took it really easy.  And now I don't have any desire to go back to a normally scheduled life.  The girls started school yesterday and 6:30 a.m. came way too early.  Oh how I relish sleeping in during school breaks!  Now I will begin to pray for a snow day or two.

************

Speaking of which, we have plenty of snow, but it's really hardly any compared to what we normally get up here.  In some ways (driving) I definitely don't mind, but I do find myself wishing for more.  Perhaps I've gone crazy?  Anyhow, I guess I'll keep praying for that snow day.

************

I have been successful at Project 365 thus far.  I know it's only been 4 days (and all four pictures feature snow), but the last time I tried it I pooped out on the second day, so I am very proud.  You can see my pictures here.

************

And now I will go work on reading A Tale of Two Cities.  I'm finally 10% into it and it's gotten good and interesting.

************

Happy Wednesday!

  1. You always make me glad I stopped by. Good luck with the lightening up. I think many people are working on that, myself included. Though you have more discipline than I do. You went off sugar for a while last year. Amazing.
I feel like I am very close to buying my dentist a boat. I have been in to see him so many times lately, and I will be going back in two weeks. Sigh.
Braces aren't so bad. It just depends on the type you get. I had one orthodontist say I would be in braces for five years, and they would have to break my jaw to move it forward. Then I went to a different dentist and he put me in them for a 18 months and moved my jaw with no bone breaking. Whew!
We need snow. Please some my way.

  2. RE: The Braces...

She will be fine, but she will have a soar mouth for a few days. Make sure to give her tylenol or advil BEFORE she gets her braces tightened every month. Also don't be alarmed if her appetite drops off the day of and the day after she gets adjustments. Make sure as well, if the braces start cutting her gums and cheeks go in to the doctor and get an adjustment or have them check her mouth.

She will be ok, it will just take a bit of getting used to, but she'll be fine.

  3. I'm packing on the pounds this pregnancy...far more than I normally do for no other reason than because I cannot stop eating. It's my last time though, you know? Is it bad for me to want to live it up a little? I'll regret it after baby's born though...

My kids start school tomorrow and I'm dreading the getting up early. I haven't been out of bed earlier than 8 AM in a solid week. How indulgent is that?!

I like brain dumps. I think they're fun.

Want to know what I'm currently excited about? I just read that there is going to be a new movie adaptation of Les Miserables, and Hugh Jackman is going to be Jean Valjean. Exciting, yes?

  4. I am on day three as well! I am starting out with cutting out candy and desserts.... that usually brings on the headache for me around day five. I can't wait!
Sorry about all your kid's dental issues. Not fun! But I am sure the girls will all have beautiful smiles when it's all done. Happy New Year!

  5. All my kids have had braces except 1 (well really 2 but the youngest will be getting his probably later this year).
It is rather painful for them at first so make sure you have some tylenol to give her for a few days but then it get easier. It is also more fun for the kids nowadays because they have the super fun and colorful bands they can choose from. She will do fine :-D

Hope your headache goes away soon.

    Enjoy the book :-D

  6. I had braces - back when they didn't come in fun colors -- does she like milk shakes or smoothies? If so, treat her to one or so. She will appreciate it.

Soup for dinner (with maybe a grilled cheese sandwich), yogurt, etc might be appreciated for dinner. For the first few days after each tightening, I really wanted soft foods.

  7. Bria will be okay - I had those same feelings with Allan. I'd never had them (but should have) Greg never had them - had no idea except I've seen hundreds of people walking around them so apparently odds are good that you survive the procedure.

Tell Bria that Wendy gets hers on Martin Luther King day - cuz we don't have school that day and I'm just that mean.

  8. Catherine said she didn't feel good about giving you a rx. So call you doc. IMITREX!

  9. I have seen NO snow this year yet. Wait, there was a tiny sprinkinling on the ground one morning. And I think there was another while I was in California, but otherwise, seriously, nothing.

I'm glad you're starting to get into ATOTC. Good luck on the lightening up thing. I am now at my "I never want to go over it" weight. I've got to be careful! And this week without sweets is not helping me. I just keep feeling like I need to eat because nothing satisfies my stupid craving. Ugh.

  10. I don't want to go back either! I liked vacation life. Luckily, my daughter was excited to return to kindergarten. Good luck with your goals - sounds like you have a good start!

  11. I'm jealous of your dentist appointment---I dread those!! I had braces and while it's not all that fun to get them on and a little sore after, it really didn't hinder my regular life that much after the first week. She's lucky she's starting young, cuz then they'll be off sooner.

  12. 3 of 4 kids with braces here. It will be fine. Get a waterpik. That is my advice.

Zumba with lighten and tighten that booty. I swear. :)

  13. Oh, dear, I am not a fan of the dentist... we've had a LOT of visits lately as well.

My easiest way for me to lose a few pounds is not to eat late at night, in fact, not to eat anything else after dinner is my "rule" (some days I cave). That is my downfall. I get all the kids in bed, my husband and I turn on a movie and I get the munchies. I usually get a HUGE bowl of ice-cream or something. Anyway, I try to do something else with my hands while I watch a movie... fold clothes, crochet, even just tickle my hubby's back, something OTHER than eating.

Just cutting out that, I can lose a couple pounds in a week.

I have not been following this over the holiday break!

I'm having a really hard time getting back on a schedule too... it was so nice.

    Good luck :)

  14. I hear you on the holiday poundage & back to the school year schedule. Though I prefer the routines, I have to wake up earlier too. Not 6:30 early though!!! that would kill me.

  15. Crap. That reminds me - I keep putting off making a dental appointment! For me AND the kids. Chris is the only one who is "on target" with that. D'oh!

  16. ah, I guess this comments comes a bit late, but braces are ok. I have them with 36 and it's still fine :)). just work on her selfesteem, explain that braces are for a good cause and if she doesn't do it now, later will be worse and much more expensive :))). and she will have to pay for it herself :))). hugs!
