Beauty Box 5 Review: April 2014

"Shades of Beauty" is Beauty Box Five's theme for April 2014. The focus is on products and looks that require a little more leisure and a little less rushing.

I received all five of April's products this month, and here's what I think of them:

BH Cosmetics California Collection Eyeshadow Palette (retail $18.95): While I am admittedly not a big eyeshadow wearer--it's the one cosmetic that I just plain don't bother with very often--I have used this stuff and it is very high quality. The colors are really fun, too, and would be perfect for a night out on the town. I will throw it in my bag when The Maestro and I had to NYC (only two weeks from today!!) and glam myself up a bit more than normal on our trips to the Metropolitan Opera and various Broadway theatres.

Nicka K New York Hydro Lipstick (Retail $4.99):  You all know I'm addicted to my lipstick. What you may not know is that I'm extremely picky about the brands I use and would rather pay $40 for a tube of Giorgio Armani lipstick than $5.00 for Revlon at the drugstore. Because there is a HUGE difference in quality. However, this Nicka K. New York stuff is pretty great, and that's my honest opinion. It stays on nicely and doesn't dry you out or flake off. The color I received is called Concerto (perfect for a musician, hey?), and is outside of my normal choice of very dark, bold lipstick colors, but it is a lovely neutral and I wore it every night of my opera performances since my make-up design required a neutral lip. Loved it.

Blum Naturals All Purpose Cleansing Wipes (Retail $2.49): This product couldn't have come at a better time. I received the box the afternoon of the first dress rehearsal for the opera. I am not a fan of stage makeup and what it can do to my skin, so I always use makeup wipes or baby wipes to remove it as soon as I am done for the night. I tried these babies out and they did an amazing job of cleaning my skin, plus it didn't sting or bother my skin at all. I compared it to the makeup wipes that were offered in the dressing room and the difference was obvious. The other wipes stung my face, turned my skin red, and removed make up. These Blum Naturals only removed make up. I'm all for skipping the red face and stinging skin for sure. I also loved how this sample size came with a chain so I could hook it easily on the side of my purse or a keychain. I will definitely be purchasing these again.

Jergen's Natural Glow - 3 Days to Glow Moisturizer (Retail $9.99): I did not get the 4 ounce tube of this product that subscribers will receive, but I did get a sample size. It was nice to put a little color on my skin after this horridly long winter that is still sticking around. Since I don't know when I'll next see sun, I can at least look like I might have seen it recently!

Bonne Bell Lip Definer (Retail $3.95): I liked the color I got (boysenberry) and have used it often since I received it. This color is perfect for my normal choice in lip color.

The total value of April's Beauty Box is $40.37. A monthly subscription to Beauty Box Five costs between $8.25 and $12.00, depending on your subscription plan. Hurry over and order by April 30th for May's Beauty Box!

  1. That seems like quite a deal for the subscription! What a great idea.

  2. I am sort of addicted to Beauty subscriptions. The upside is that I get to learn about a lot of new products I wouldn't otherwise know about and I rarely have to buy make up anymore. Except lipstick. I'm an addict.

  3. I'm not a makeup kind of girl anymore but, I'd be interested in being able to try new products! thanks for the review Lara :-)

  4. That's really my favorite part of these subscriptions--trying out new products that I would never have purchased otherwise. And all for a very reasonable price.
