Call for creativity

Okay internet....I need your help.

My friend and I are doing a duet recital in September, and we are calling it "How can I keep from singing?" and will be opening with that piece.

We want each of the sets to be titled similarly, (for instance, the sacred set will be titled "How can I keep from praising God?") and this is where I need your help, because I'm at something of a loss. We can only come up with something for the Sacred set, and vague ideas for the others, but I won't share them here because I want to hear what you have to say.

Here are the sets:

Folk Songs:

He's Gone Away
Homeward Bound

***How can I keep from praising God?***

Laudamus Te-Vivaldi
Quis Est Homo-Rossini

Songs of John Duke (this set will be solo singing)

i carry your heart
I Can't Be Talkin' of Love

What is this feeling?-Wicked

(We also need to find at least one other great Broadway duet, so if you have any ideas, let's hear 'em!)

Duetto Buffo per Due Gatti-Rossini (not really from an opera)
Via Resti Servita-Marriage of Figaro
Evening Prayer-Hansel and Gretel
Flower Song-Lakme

So, hit me with your creativity. Tell me the first thing that comes to mind. And don't tell me you're not creative. I read all of your blogs, and you are. Oh yes. You are.

ETA: I will even send a prize to whomever can title my sets. The only set I need adding to is the Broadway one, and if I use one of your suggestions, you get a prize, too. Help!!!

  1. Sounds like a great set. I love the duet "I still believe" from Miss Saigon (though it is about adultery, sort of, but who listens to the words?) and "the last night of the world".

  2. "Who will love me as I am" or "I will always love you" from Sideshow. Great female duets.

    Best wishes!

  3. "Goin' Home" for one set.
    Love you

  4. Lara,
I LOVE the duet "All I Ask of You" from Phantom. It is just so powerful. A set title could be "How Can I Keep from Loving You?" or "How Can I Not Love You" something like that....those were the first ideas that popped in my head. If I think of anything else I will share. Good luck!

  5. I was going to suggest the song "Still Believe" from Miss Saigon, too. I love that song!

  6. I thought your blog title was cute so I stopped by! Good luck finding ideas. Sounds like you really love music like me.

  7. Easy answer..."Agony" from into the woods. I played in the orchestra in this one at MVHS. It was always one of my favorites. By the way--Good job on the blog. Vicki and I read it frequently. Sa va fie de bine!

  8. ooooh, totally wish i could be there to hear this!! i'm sure it's going to be amazing! here's an idea for the broadway set. "how can i keep off of the stage" or "how can i keep out of the spotlight?" something along those lines...

  9. I found your blog from a Scribbit recomendation. Your recital sounds excellent! I am a musician as well. Here are a few ideas:
Folk - How Can I Keep Away from Home?
Duke - How Can I Keep the Art from Music?
Broadway - How Can I Keep from the Stage?
(Duet ideas, these songs have entertaining lyrics more than melodic masterpieces, but are still great for performing: "Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better)" from ANNIE GET YOUR GUN; or "Stepsisters Lament" from Rodgers & Hammerstein's CINDERELLA.
Opera - Come posso evitare di Canto?
    (Your recital title in Italian)
