"Nobody can be uncheered with a balloon."
~Winnie the Pooh
There was a party for the Visual and Performing Arts Department at the University last week. Balloons at every table. Our family was one of the last to leave, so the Dept. Chair gave my kids every last balloon to take home, much to the chagrin of my husband. Nothing worse than balloons in the house, according to him.
I can't say I love them either, but they make my children oh-so-happy, and if they're happy, so am I.
Oh my! Happiness! Look at that picture, things I love, Bria, Green grass, sunny skies and balloons!!
ReplyDeleteI have to side with your husband on this one. sorry. :)
ReplyDeleteHow were they in the car? I think that's kind of worse than in the house. After I few days I discreetly let out the remaining air and trash them.
ReplyDeleteYou know, my 4-yr-old Avery HATES balloons because she's scared they will pop. About a year ago, she was walking by someone at a local fair who was blowing up a balloon with helium, and it popped right by her ear. Then five minutes later she walked by a kid holding a balloon which randomly popped, again, by her ear. Traumatized for life.
ReplyDeletePeople look at us funny when we're at the grocery store or some other place where they offer my child a balloon, and we turn them down. She honestly doesn't like them. It's almost like people are offended---but I know they're really just surprised. Aren't all kids supposed to like balloons?
I'm proud of her, though, because lately she hasn't run screaming when she sees balloons. She just puts her hands over her ears and talks about how brave she is to be around them. :-)
At least they aren't fishbowls!
ReplyDeleteThis made me think of this one time when I battled a bouquet of helium balloons on a VERY windy day. I tried for about ten minutes to get them into the car and wow there was a lot of flailing and sighing and acking. Ugh. ;)
ReplyDeleteMaybe you guys could suck some helium and make funny voices?
Yeah, I echo your sentiments exactly!
ReplyDeleteWhenever I see balloons at an event, I dread the eventual giving of those balloons to my kids.
ReplyDeleteBut I let them come home, because you're right, they do make the kids happy. (Although they know any bickering over said balloons leaves to instant popping by mom).
When the kids were younger we felt the same way about balloons! Funny! But now they aren't so bad. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun party!
Childhood is short enough, and balloons only last a few days. If the kids fight over them, they go. But otherwise, enjoy that sweetness. You're not too many years away from the time when they'll think everything, including balloons, is stupid.
ReplyDeleteUnless given to them by a cute boy.
Oh, such bliss! I remember loving party detritus when I was a kid (what is it with kids and festive trash?!), and my parents were never thrilled, either. But if your gang can appreciate the simple joys of life, then everybody wins. Although maybe next time the simple joys will be easier to clean up after...!
ReplyDeleteWhat is it about kids and balloons? They're like magnets for each other. And they make great hair:)
ReplyDeleteAgreed that they don't last long enough to be bothered, as long as the kids are enjoying them.
ReplyDeleteAlso agreed that balloons in the car are much worse than balloons in the house.
I love balloons unless my kids fight over them :)
ReplyDeleteI wrote about you today on my blog. Hope it was okay to link.
I bought a package of balloons for Ethan's birthday party Saturday. Ever since then, my kids have had a ball blowing them up and then letting them go (without tying them in a not). There is slobber everywhere, I'm sure, but they are having a great time with them!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the picture!!
ReplyDeleteShall we add "future cheerleader" to the list of Bria's talents? There are just some kids who are super-talented who can do everything and do it well. I wouldn't be surprised if Bria is one of those kids. She looks like a cheerleader to me in this picture. My sisters were cheerleaders, what a fun thing to be. --Amanda B.
ReplyDeleteSweet pic!! And paired with the quote? Perfection.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love it! But I am a huge fan of balloons!!!
ReplyDeleteBalloons + Kids = sheer happiness!!!
(just keep those death traps away from babies)
Ah! Bria is getting so BIG and looks way too grown up! She is just beautiful. Can't wait to see you guys soooooon :)
