When the Stake President gave me my temple recommend interview a few months ago, he inquired about how I was liking the area. I told him that I loved it. But when he handed me my recommend and told me to use it often, I amended my response. I love it here except for the distance from the temple.
From Stake headquarters, it is only about 3 hours to Chicago, but we are another 4 hours beyond that. So to go to the temple requires a lot of planning and forethought and at least 7 hours of driving time. I honestly don't see us making the trek more than once per year, but maybe we'll be able to do better than that. We'll see.
But anyway, we went! On Saturday morning we drove out to the Chicago temple and did a session. It was wonderful, we are blessed, end of story.
I can't wait to go back.
Those pictures are breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea the Chicago temple was so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteCary and I did the same thing this past weekend! It had been WAY too long since we'd been to the temple. It was so nice to be away from all of our work and just be a COUPLE for a while. We only got away for a night and a day, but it was still great. I feel blessed that Lana has come far enough with eating that we did not have to worry about leaving her.
ReplyDeleteI can't say that i have ever seen the Chicago temple. It is very unique, but still very beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThe Chicago Temple is beautiful and very unique. Loved the pictures.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! You can do it!! Try to go back again as soon as you can. When I lived in KC we were 3 hours away. I worked my way up to going once a month. It was such a blessing in my life.
ReplyDeleteLike your pictures too.
That is probably the most interesting Temple I have ever seen!
ReplyDeleteThat temple is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous!! wow!! :)
ReplyDeleteI like living near a temple. With little ones, it's a struggle even to get there once a month, so I'm amazed you make it all. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful temple, I don't remember ever seeing a picture of it before.
ReplyDeleteI think it's high time a temple is built in Michigan, how about Detroit? :)
Until the temple was built in the Dominican Republic (and dedicated 2 months before we left the Caribbean) we in Puerto Rico were in the Orlando temple district! Yep, just 15 minutes to the beach, then an 1,100 mile swim, then a couple more hours' drive, and we were there!
ReplyDeleteNeedless to say, we saved our rare temple trips for the times we were visiting family in the States.
And yet, when we lived in Seattle, I could see the temple from my living room window. I timed it; it took exactly 6 minutes to drive from my garage to the temple parking lot.
But I distinctly remember one year when I went recommend to recommend without ever having used it once. I guess distance can be measured in miles - or in the desires of your hearts.
I'm proud of you for making the sacrifice and setting a good example for the rest of us.
What a beautiful temple.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am feeling guilty about my 10 minute drive to one here
I would love to get to the Chicago temple some day. It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI am 15 minutes away and only get there a minimum amount of times a year. I need to do better.
ReplyDeleteThat is an incredible temple. I'm always suprised by how my individuality there is in each temple. I'm so glad you got the opportunity to go. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteWOW I will be reading about this temple...it almost looks like it was a chapel re purposed into a temple. It is unusual to see Moroni NOT on the Temple itself. hmm wonderful pics!
ReplyDeleteBoy we really take the temple for granted here. What a neat fountain that is!
ReplyDeleteThat's so wonderful. And it reminds me that I need to vist our temple more often. Since I am only an hour away.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful architecture!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous images, my friend. As always. This is actually my little break before the class comes in from recess. I just have a moment and I wanted to personally invite you to participate in my blog swap. It's going to be a lot of fun, and I'd love it if you'd join us. Of course, I totally understand if you can't or don't want to. Take care. Many blessings to you and yours.
