Beauty Box Five Review: June 2014

"Summer Chic" is the theme for Beauty Box Five's June beauty box. "Less effort, more cool" means products that are easy to use but pack a big punch. (Keep reading--this post includes a code for a free box so you can try it out yourself!)

Nicka K Nail polish Beauty Box 5 June 2014

Nicka K New York Nail Color (Retail 4.99): I actually had discovered this brand a few months ago, and I love it. It is inexpensive, and yet it is as nice as any of my more expensive nail polishes. Also, I really love the shape of the bottle. Is that weird to like products based on their packaging? Because I totally do.

My toenails are currently painted a Nicka K red, and in this month's Beauty Box, I received a very pretty lavender. A very pretty lavender that my teenage daughter quickly claimed for herself. Which was fine with me, because that girl paints her nails on a daily (sometimes twice daily!) basis. And I think she can pull off the purple better than I can.

Organix Coconut Water Shampoo & Conditioner (Sample Size, value $0.31): I just used this to wash my hair today. I really like how light both the shampoo and conditioner are--perfect for summertime. My hair is soft and smooth, and best of all? It smells heavenly. I feel like I should be at the beach in Hawaii.

Glam Natural Mascara (Sample Size, value $14.00): If you have super sensitive eyes, then this mascara is for you. It is gluten-free (I never realized just how sensitive people can be to gluten until Sophia's diagnosis), paraben-free, and hypo-allergenic. I really liked how it gave my lashes a natural look. It's a nice alternative to the heavy mascara I usually wear, good for days I don't really want to be all glammed up.

Eslor Introductory Collection Calming Kit (Sample Size, value $15.48): I have not tried this skincare sample yet, but I am excited to see how it works. I'm kind of all over the place with my skincare routine and since I'm turning 40 in a couple months (ouch), I figure I'd better find something that works and be more consistent. This sample inclueds a refiner, a cleanser, a replenishing scrub, a mask, and a soothing cream.

Vitabath body wash Beauty Box 5 June 2014

Vita Bath Body Wash (Sample Size, value $1.33): Oh my gosh. This body wash (I received a scent called Dreamy Pink Frosting) smells so good I thought I might want to eat it. Instead, I found an excuse to take a second shower the day I received my box just so I could use it. Not only does it smell good, it is good--it's sulfate and paraben free and antioxidant rich. Apparently they have other, equally yummy, scents like Wild Red Cherry and Beach Blossom.

(Bria, my 13-year-old, hated the scent. But she is not a fan of anything that smells like it might be a real baked good. At least I don't have to worry about her stealing mine!)

The total value of June's Beauty Box is circa $35.00. A monthly subscription to Beauty Box Five costs between $8.25 and $12.00, depending on your subscription plan.

And this month, you can try it out for FREE! Just enter FREE614 at checkout to either get a free introduction box or save $12.00 off of a yearly or quarterly subscription. (Offer valid for first-time US customers only and expires on 6/30/2014)

I'm always looking for good, cheap nail polish! Unfortunately, I didn't have the same experience with the Organix shampoo and conditioner. I agree, they smell great! But, for someone with super dry hair, they just don't cut it.

  2. Good information. I don't have dry hair at all (unfortunately, it's quite the opposite), so I thought it was a nice light shampoo. In fact, it was refreshing to me that it wasn't ultra moisturizing, since those shampoos often make my hair even greasier. It's difficult to find a good shampoo for hair that tends to oily--they all seem to be formulated for dry hair!

And yes, I think you'll really like the Nicka K nailpolish. I have loved it.

  3. I've always been interested in these beauty subscription services. I'd love to have things come to my door that will make me feel pampered. I wish there was a way to customize what you get though!

  4. Oh! I would love the calming kit and also the body wash... Checking it out.
