Summer reading is a big deal around here. It might actually be one of my favorite parts of being a mom during summer vacation. I LOVE seeing my kids read.

We have a summer kick-off party the day after school is out and I give them a bin of new books to read for the summer. They are always super excited to dive in to their new books and usually get started reading right away. We sign up for the summer reading program at the library to earn rewards and I like to come up with other fun incentives to keep them interested in reading all summer long.

Of course, vacations and beach days and friends are all part of their summers, too. But reading is always a big part of our summer break and it makes me super happy. And I think it makes my kids pretty happy, too.

It’s always nice to have a way to keep track of what the kids have read. We’ve done this in several different ways (reading journals, “I read a book!” printable, etc.), but a simple reading log seems to work well for my kids now that they are a bit older.

Just a super simple date, book title, and number of pages—because it’s always fun to see how many pages you’ve actually read!
