This is seriously my favorite lotion. I use it every day. It's the only thing that helps my two eczema-y patches of skin on my knee and foot. I also love that it doesn't have any fragrance to compete with my other products.

I try not to put chemicals on my skin, so during the summer, I use minimal sunscreen (and take advantage of the wonderful Vitamin D that the sun provides and most lack in their bodies) and lather up with coconut oil!

My skin is fair, and especially prone to sunspots (eww!), so in the summertime, I'm especially vigilant about using some kind of sunscreen every day. I like to use lavender essential oil mixed with a little jojoba oil to moisturize my face and body each morning, then apply sunscreen and don a good pair of sunglasses before I head outside. Although I find the idea of wearing a big, floppy, Scarlett O'Hara-esque hat to be charming and romantic, I just can't pull it off. They make me too hot on those blazing summer days, especially when I'm out working in the garden, or cheering at my son's swim meets for hours on end. Motherhood has helped me to be more vigilant when it comes to sun protection, and I've been pretty good about helping my family avoid burning, but when it does happen, I have perfected a whole ritual of relief.
1. First is a lukewarm bath infused with 2 cups epsom salts, 1/2 cup baking soda, and 5-10 drops of lavender or Roman chamomile essential oil.
2. I like to air-dry on my bed, which is right underneath a ceiling fan. It feels like heaven on earth when you have a sunburn.
3. I mist my skin with a combination of peppermint oil and cool water (this cools the burn), and follow-up with a gentle rub-down of more lavender oil diluted in my favorite carrier oil of the minute, which right now is calendula for anything to do with skin.
4. I reapply the peppermint mist and soothing rub as necessary.
5. I also try to increase my water intake, hydrating and moisturizing from the inside out.

I'm a VERY fair-skinned redhead, so sunscreen is my best friend all year long! That alone tends to prevent 90% of my summer issues (let's not talk about the toll that this miserable Michigan winter took on my skin!) If I do manage to get burned, though, aloe vera and cold tea (applied to the skin, try it!) are great for the first few, miserable days. Afterwards, a nice, unscented moisturizer keeps me from shedding too much as my skin goes back to its pale self. :)
