Small Habits That Make a Big Difference
Small actions can make a powerful impact in our lives. This is a principle I’ve learned again and again and then forget just as often as I learn it…again. In my church we have a passage of scripture that I love:
“…behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass…”
Isn’t that an amazing idea? If we want to accomplish great things, we don’t have to wake up one day and take over the world. All we have to do is create small and simple habits that will compound to help us do truly amazing things.
I think we too often look for that one big thing—the miracle cure, if you will—that will fix whatever is wrong in our lives. That’s just not the way it works, though! If we really want to make big changes, we must start by making small ones. The journey of a thousand miles begins with just a single step.
I’ve been reading a book called The Slight Edge: Turning Simple Disciplines into Massive Success and Happiness which also teaches this principle. Basically, any small action done on a daily basis that will bring you closer to your ultimate goal will give you an edge. The catch is that these actions don’t seem to make a huge difference at first—they are easy to do, but they are also easy not to do.
The key is to keep doing them
This year for my annual 31 Day Challenge I decided to explore the idea of small habits/big impact.
I hope you will follow me during this challenge and see which small habits can make a big difference for you! Sign up in the form below and you’ll receive an email every day for the next 30 days introducing a small and simple habit that has the potential to do great things in your life.
There’s no way a single person can create 30 new habits in one month, so you don’t have to adopt each of these habits, but at least try to explore each of them. I will consider this challenge a huge success if you only get one or two of these habits to stick, because just one will bring big changes to your life.
